Tell Us About Your Garden:

We're in Chicago's 40th ward. We bought the house because of the yard and installed a 1,700 sq foot vegetable garden - we like to cook and entertain.

How I Grow My Vegetable Garden:

We do raised beds, organic and heirlooms. We do a lot of everything. Here's a link to our seed stash: http://myfolia.com/gardener/TheYarden/stash

Most challenges we've been able to overcome one way or another except SQUIRRELS. Our resident squirrel - we call him The Football - is usually not much of a pest but last year spring was late and he ate all the buds off our espalier apple trees. Need a solution for that this year.

Advice

  • Just do it. Don't let anything stop you from growing your own vegetables. Plants want to grow - you just need to help them along a bit. Your own home grown food will taste great and make you proud. It's worth it!

I'm so glad The Yarden chose to share their gardens! They do a great job of growing interesting heirlooms and sharing their knowledge with the community.
