Vegetables to Direct Sow in your Garden in June

A big part of growing a successful edible garden is getting the timing right. Planting the right things at the right time helps you make optimum use of your space. With that in mind, here is a region-by-region list of which edibles you can direct sow in your garden in June:

In the Pacific Northwest, you can plant arugula, beans, beets, carrots, chard, corn, cucumbers, kohlrabi, lettuce, melons, parsnips, pumpkins, radishes, scallions, spinach, and squash (summer and winter).

In the North Central U.S. (and the Rocky Mountains), you can plant arugula, beans, beets, carrots, corn, cucumbers, kale, lettuce, melons, pumpkins, radishes, scallions, and squash (summer and winter).

In the central U.S. and Midwest, this is the time to plant beans, beets, carrots, chard, corn, cucumbers, melons, pumpkins, scallions, and squash (summer and winter).

In New England, you can plant beans, carrots, chard, corn, cucumbers, lettuce, radishes, pumpkins, scallions, squash (summer and winter), and turnips.

In the Mid-Atlantic states, the time is right for beans, beets, carrots, chard, corn, cucumber, leeks, lettuce, melons, parsnips, pumpkins, radishes, scallions, and squash (summer and winter).

In the South and along the Gulf Coast, you can direct sow beans, corn, okra, and watermelon.

In the Southwest, direct sow beans, corn, cucumbers, melons, okra, and watermelon.

In beautiful Hawaii, direct sow beans, corn, cucumbers, lettuce, and melons.

And, last but not least, in Alaska, direct sow arugula, beans, beets, carrots, corn, fennel, garlic, lettuce, parsnips, peas, radishes, spinach, and Swiss chard.
