Definition: Clay is one of the three major soil types. It is characterized by a high nutrient density, poor drainage, and a smooth, almost greasy texture. Few plants will thrive in clay soil.

Examples: By adding organic matter and sharp sand to clay soil, you can dramatically improve its texture.
