Definition: Bacillus thuringiensis, most often referred to simply as Bt, is a naturally-occurring pesticide that is useful in controlling many common garden pests, including cabbage worm, tomato hornworm, and Colorado potato beetle, as well as several other caterpillar species. Bt is a bacteria that kills these pests by attacking their digestive systems, essentially killing them from the inside out. Bt is not toxic to humans, pets, or pollinators.
Bt is commonly sold under the brand names Dipel and Thuricide.
