At a mere 153 pages, one would expect little more than a general overview of composting; indeed, several books about composting run much longer than Campbell's. But what he manages to pack into those 153 pages is astounding. Campbell takes us through the basics of decomposition, introduces several popular composting methods, explains what and how to compost, and provides a whole chapter about ways to speed up the composting process. Campbell does a great job of introducing the basics while keeping it entertaining for the compost geeks among us.
My favorite chapter of the book is Chapter Six: Composting Methods to Stimulate Your Imagination. It definitely lived up to its promise. I found myself trying to figure out how to incorporate biodynamic composting, or taking a look in my garden to see where I could construct a compost pit. But maybe the thing I appreciated the most was the fact that he introduced plenty of options for composting in small spaces, a topic that is near and dear to my heart as an urban gardener.
I highly recommend Let It Rot! to new and old composters alike. It's an entertaining read, and you are guaranteed to learn plenty from its pages.
