Articles of Interest

One of the things I love about working for About.com is reading the articles written by my fellow Guides. For someone with a wide variety of interests, clicking through About.com is akin to being a kid in a candy store.

This is particularly true of my fellow garden writers here at About. Here are just a few of the articles I've read and enjoyed lately:

  • Via our Guide to Herb Gardens, Amy Jeanroy, How to Make Rose Water (or any hydrosol, for that matter). Want to capture the scent of your favorite rose, or maybe you're loving the scent of lemon verbena and want your home to smell just as fresh? Hydrosols are the way to go -- and they're EASY.
  • I love flowering vines, and Kerry Michaels, our Guide to Container Gardening, has suggestions for Five Flowering Vines for Containers.
  • The easiest way to keep your garden healthy is to know what a happy, healthy plant looks like in the first place. This helps you avoid buying diseased plants, but it also helps you evaluate the plants currently growing in your garden. Vanessa Richins Myers, our Guide to Trees and Shrubs, wrote a great article about signs of a healthy shrub.
  • Low light plus houseplants is generally not a good combination. Luckily, Houseplants Guide Jon VanZile has a great article up about Houseplants for Dark Corners. I'll be buying a few of the plants on his list!

Happy Reading!
