Fast-Growing Cucumbers to Plant Now

cucumber plantsSo, it's July, and you just realized that you wished you'd thought to plant a few cucumbers in your garden.

The good news is, you still have plenty of time, and the conditions are perfect for sowing and growing cucumbers!

If you live in an area with a short growing season, you'll need to select varieties that produce a crop fairly quickly. Most cucumbers are ready to harvest between 50 and 70 days from planting. You'll want to select varieties at the lower end of the spectrum. You can determine this by looking at the "days to harvest" number on your seed packet. Some of the fastest producing cucumber varieties include:

  • 'Bush Pickle' -- 48 days
  • 'Calypso' -- 52 days
  • 'Sweet Success' -- 54 days
  • 'Early Green Cluster' -- 55 days
  • 'Early Pride' -- 55 days
  • 'Slicemaster' -- 55 days
  • 'Salad Bush' -- 57 days
  • 'Diva' -- 58 days

I planted Sweet Success this year. They are delicious. If you’re not sure which to try, maybe give this one a shot.
