I saw the first cucumber beetles of the season in my garden today. If you're seeing these guys in your garden, here's how to control cucumber beetles before they make a mess of your cukes and other cucurbits.

Row covers are an excellent idea to help control these pests. You can also plant radishes around your cukes. They act as a trap crop to help get the first beetles out of the way. Since radishes germinate so quickly and their leaves are attractive to many of these types of pests, it’s a cheap and easy way to increase your controls. And damaged radishes can be pulled up and discarded.
